Chinese

Chinese rug production has a very long history dating back centuries. Initially rugs were produced by nomadic tribes for their own use and sold or traded whenever neccessary. Gradually production moved to settlements and villages and ultimately workshops where all modern production emanates. The Chinese rug of today is vastly different to yesteryear in as much as traditional Buddhist and Daoist influenced design has given way to copies of Persian, French and other foreign styles. Whilst usually of a high technical quality, modern Chinese rugs lack character and individuality.
