Bakhtiar Rugs (also Baktiar, Bachtiar and Bakhtiyar) are made of durable wool beaten hard to make them thick and solid - they are considered to be among the most durable of Persian carpets. A well-known pattern is the Khesti or garden motif where the carpet is divided into squares with plants and animals, symbolizing the Persian garden, but also medallions and life tree-motifs occur influenced by Isfahan carpet designs. The wool, considered to be the best in Persia, is lustrous and thick because the sheep graze in the mountains. They make fine collectors’ pieces.
